Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

JM Osteopathy DublinOsteopathy recognizes the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit. The osteopathic philosophy is to treat the person as a whole, not just the specific symptoms. By improving the function of the whole body, osteopathy helps to stimulate the body’s own self-healing /self-regulating processes, aiding a return to health.

How does Osteopathy work?

Osteopaths believe that the structure and function of the body are inter-related, that is, the body can only function at optimum levels if it is structurally sound. Alteration in the structure of the body leads to reduced or impaired function in its organs and tissues. By improving the function of the musclo-skeletal system this can enhance other body activities such as nerve function, circulation, breathing, digestion and elimination, thereby improving vitality and general health. Using hands-on techniques to manipulate and improve the blood, nerve, and lymph supply to a damaged or ill part of the body, stimulates its own natural ability to self-repair and heal. The cycle of pain or illness is broken, and the need for ongoing medication is reduced or eliminated.

Osteopathy is a package of care that includes skilled mobilizing and manipulative techniques, reinforced by guidance on rehabilitation and exercise. Treatment involves gentle, manual techniques- easing pain, reducing swelling and improving mobility, allowing you a quick return to normal activity.
